Education program The Measure of our Traveling Feet
25.9—27.11.2016
As part of its exhibition The Measure of our Traveling Feet, Marres is presenting a comprehensive educational program for young people aged 14 to 20. In the run-up to the exhibition, Marres put together a dedicated peer team of (international) students and asylum seekers. By collaborating with students from a variety of schools and cultural backgrounds, the team seeks to make such notions as culture and migration tangible in an easily accessible manner. It offers peer tours, supervises workshops on art and migration and studies cross-fertilizations with a range of social parties. Students develop the activities together, they cook and they interview people. The results are translated into guided tours and presentations in schools. As part of a special project with visual artist Zsófia Smemző, the students create objects for integration into her mural The bubble of what you leave behind (2016).
The Measure of our Traveling Book
Fifteen booklets have been sent out into the world. Students of secondary schools and United World College and young people from refugee centers are distributing these booklets, entitled “The Measure of our Traveling Book”. Each book contains three chapters. Each chapter asks a question. When you get the book, you must answer the questions. You can then ask three more questions of someone else. Then pass the book on. This creates a cultural exchange.
The program was developed in collaboration with Stichting de Vrolijkheid, de Tapijntuin and het KunstFront. Students of Broekland College, United World College and Porta Mosana College and young people from the refugee centers in Maastricht and Heerlen participate in the program.
If you are interested in the educational program and would like to take part with a group of your students, please send an email to educatie@marres.org
